Wonder

Symmetry

born out of chaos.

The world transforms

itself.

Dreams enfold.

The tiniest of endeavors

become exercises of love.

Reality conquers imagination.

This is the first poem my knight in shining armor wrote to me.  It was written inside of a Valentine’s Day card, sent from Seattle where my heart was residing at the time.  We had decided rather quickly that we were going to get married, but for a time, he was in Seattle while I lived 8 hours south.  This was prior to cell phones and the ease of texting.  Our communications were either through expensive phone calls (strategically timed at the cheapest hours) or with pen and paper.  It was a beautiful time of dreaming and longing.  Of wonder.

My encouragement today is simple.  Remember the wonder.  Take a moment and close your eyes.  What were your thoughts when you first saw, really saw, your beloved?  Can you recall the thrill of holding hands for the first time?  Of eye contact that lingered and was loaded with promise? How about that first kiss?  Remember.  The feelings, the sights, sounds, even the smells.

Remember, and share your thoughts with your lover this week.  Pursue the wonder of firsts made all the richer with time.
