Looking Lovely

If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until it gets so ugly you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.

This quote, by one of my all-time favorite authors, immediately made me think of Philippians 4:8.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” (NIV)

I don’t know about you, my friends, but I sure need this reminder on a regular basis!  May we think on lovely things today, yes?

  1. Yup–frequent reminders are a necessity. Thank you for this one, Rebeca! Someone has said: “Beautiful things happen when you distance yourself from negativity.” I suppose that would include beautiful things happening on our faces!

    • I like that! As a former pessimist, I can attest to the truth of it. I think, as I distance myself from negativity, not only do beautiful things happen, but I am actually able to SEE them. Negativity clouds the vision, don’t you think? 🤔
